PreSeason

The time has finally come! You have worked hard for 9 months this off season for us to get better and the season starts next week! We will have two weeks of double session practices followed by a scrimmage to get us ready for the season. Our morning sessions will be from 8-10:30 AM followed by an evening practice from 4-6:30. We have structured practices this way to avoid the heat of day. Make sure you are going home and eating, drinking and getting rest in between practices. Our morning practices will be structure heavily towards offense and the evening practice will be geared more towards defense. We also have decided to bring back the marines this year like we did last year for team building, leadership skills, and a great physically challenging workout. We know that you guys have put in the hard work which has built your foundation for the season. Now it is time to put it all together and use what you have learned this off season to get us back into the playoffs this year and beyond. We will be handing out athletic codes of conduct along with a calendar showing when all the practices, fundraisers, etc. are. We will discuss the athletic code of conduct along with what that means for your commitment to the team this Fall. Please enjoy this weekend and relax but yourself prepared. Once Monday rolls around we are full speed ahead into the season. I look forward to another great season! -Coach C

7 on 7 Nights

We are looking to build on our success from our team camp in May. We saw many positive things but also realize that there is a lot more that we still need to work on. Throughout the month of July we will be holding 7 on 7 competition nights at our school. This will consist of us along with three or four other local teams coming to our field to compete against us. While we won't be in full pads this will certainly give us a much needed chance to use our time during the summer to work on our passing game. We will be needing our QBs, RBs, WRs. TEs, C, and LBs to attend. If you play these positions you are expected to attend these passing nights. We ask this as it will provide us an early jump to get our timing and chemistry down as we head into the final stretch before our last team camp in August and pre-season. We will conclude our passing nights by attending the Cohoes Shoot Out which is a 20 team competition 7 on 7 tournament with referees there as well. We finished 3rd out of 20 teams last year and are looking to build on this for this coming year.Order forms for T-shirts for the shootout will be available in the coaching office this week and next week so please make sure to stop by. Let's make sure we are getting the most out of these nights guys! -Coach C

Football Camp

I want to thank you all for your great effort in our combine. We did some great things and have seen some very good progress so far from January to now. As you may already be aware, we have our annual Spring Team Camp coming up in May. In years past we have traveled to Schalmont and had all four days of camp at their high school. This year we will have the benefit of the first two days of camp at our school to put in our own schemes before going to their place to scrimmage for the last two days. You have been diligently working in the weight room hard this whole offseason but now is when we start to get our first look at what you can bring to the table on our team. We will not expect perfection out of you as you will have months of rust to shake off and for the Freshmen this will be your first team camp ever. However, we expect that you give us all you have and give us great effort. The coaching staff uses this camp for a few reasons. We like to get some early work putting in our offensive and defensive schemes. The other thing is it gives us an early look at our personnel so we can start to make decisions on who may best help us where. Please try to have an open mind about where we put you even if you have never played there before. You will be given a sheet to take home to have your parents sign along with sending a $40 check for the camp. If you have any questions please stop by and see a coach. We look forward to seeing you in pads! -Coach C

Still sore from your workouts?

I have had some requests for information about how to improve workouts. One area that we often do not think about is what we do after our workouts. It is critical for your recovery that you are cooling down and stretching appropriately after intense periods of exercise or weight training. These things are easy to overlook but trust me they make a big difference. If you are coming to workouts and you are still very sore from the workout you did last time you may not be getting everything you can out of your workouts. I have found a short video from health expert Meredith Rudh on some ways that you can relieve muscle soreness to get yourself back in the game quicker. Remember we want to do everything we can to make the most out of our time in the gym. We need to train hard and recover the correct way. if you have any questions about these techniques I would be glad to show them to you. -Coach C

Combine During March Break!

I have some exciting news to give to you today. We will be returning our local combine that we were unable to do last year. This will include all of the local area schools coming to our place to compete. We are excited as we feel this gives us a great early opportunity to look at how we stack up against our local competition and to see how well our new weight training program is working for us. The combine will feature the following lifts/agilities: Bench Press Squat Dead Lift 40 yard Dash 3 cone shuttle Standing vertical jump The combine will be broken up into weight classes with the top three athletes in each weight class receiving medals. The combine will begin Sat March 19th at 8am. Please make sure to be here by 7:30 so you are wormed up and can assist with any setup that may be necessary. -Coach C

Off Season Weight Training

Good Morning and welcome to my blog. Now that our season is over and we have officially begun our offseason please check back frequently for updates. You will be receiving updated materials shortly explaining our new weight training program. We will be switching from BFS that we have used in the past to our new program called SSX. This stands for Strength, Speed, and Explosion. We feel that this program will give us that extra edge that we may have been missing using our old program. SSX is broken up into phases. The first phase from Jan-Mar. will be the strength phase. The second phase from April-June is the speed phase where we will work to get faster. Our final phase from June-preseason will be our explosion phase where we work on becoming more explosive athletes. Please understand that while we are very excited about this program you need to come in and do the work that is asked of you. You have before school, project learn, and after school to complete your workouts. There are no excuses! I will see you all in the weight room! -Coach C
